Other Pest Control Services in Boise, Idaho
Ants, spiders, and rodents get most of the attention, but they're far from the only pests that give Boise homeowners headaches. XPest treats a wide range of insects and pests common to the Treasure Valley, including several that tend to fly under the radar until they've become a real problem.
If you're dealing with something that isn't covered on our main service pages, there's a good chance we can help. Here's a look at some of the other pests we regularly treat throughout the Boise area.
Earwigs
Earwigs are one of the most common pest calls we get in Boise, especially in late spring and summer. They're drawn to moisture and tend to gather in large numbers under debris, mulch, and landscaping before making their way inside through gaps in doors and foundations.
While they're not dangerous, earwigs are unsettling, and a heavy earwig year can mean hundreds of them in your home. We treat perimeter harborage areas and entry points to prevent them from getting inside.
Cluster Flies
Cluster flies are a common fall nuisance in Idaho. As temperatures drop, they seek warm spaces to overwinter, often finding their way into attics, wall voids, and window frames by the hundreds or thousands. Come spring, they emerge into living spaces looking for a way out.
Because cluster flies overwinter inside the structure, treatment needs to address both interior harborage areas and exterior entry points. Timing matters with cluster flies; early fall treatment before they've fully entered the structure is most effective.
Silverfish
Silverfish are small, fast-moving insects that thrive in humid, dark environments. You're most likely to find them in bathrooms, basements, laundry rooms, and anywhere paper or cardboard is stored. They feed on starchy materials and can cause damage to books, documents, wallpaper, and clothing over time.
Ticks
Ticks in the Treasure Valley are most active from early spring through fall. The Rocky Mountain wood tick is the most common species in Idaho and can transmit Rocky Mountain spotted fever. If you spend time in grassy or wooded areas, or have pets that do, tick prevention around your property is worth considering. XPest offers perimeter treatments and yard-focused tick control as part of our mosquito and tick prevention services.
Boxelder Bugs
These distinctive black-and-red insects are harmless but can invade homes in enormous numbers in the fall. As cluster flies, they're looking for warm places to overwinter. They congregate on the sunny sides of homes and sneak inside through any gap they can find. Once they're inside walls and attic spaces, they're difficult to remove. Preventative exterior treatments in late summer and early fall, combined with sealing entry points, are the most effective approach.
Fleas
Flea infestations are most common in homes with pets, but any home can be affected — fleas can be introduced by wildlife, stray animals, or even on clothing. Flea treatments need to target adults, larvae, and eggs simultaneously, since the adult fleas you see represent only a fraction of the total population.
